Ice Cream Fundraiser Helps Patients Like Kelsie

On July 28, for every Blizzard® Treat sold at participating locations, $1 or more will be donated to a local Children’s Miracle Network hospital. Every donation in the greater Tampa Bay area will go toward Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital to help provide the best treatment for kids like Kelsie, who come to the hospital to receive treatment for conditions such as cystic fibrosis (CF), a progressive, genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and severe digestive problems.

Every year Dairy Queen® partners with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, like Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, to donate millions to local children’s hospitals in the United States and Canada during Miracle Treat Day.

For Kelsie, having CF means she must have daily treatments and frequently visit the hospital throughout the year. At the same time, she has an amazing attitude and participates in fun activities when she’s able to. She remains goal-oriented as she wants to follow her mom to be a day care teacher and go to college to become a police officer. The best news for Kelsie right now is that she’s taking a promising new medication that could extend her life.

Dan Byrne, owner of the Brooksville DQ Grill & Chill, has been a longtime champion of supporting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and Johns Hopkins All Children’s.

“To be a small part of something big epitomizes what we do as DQ franchisees," Byrne says. “Each day these kids wake up hoping to feel better. That’s where we, along with so many other brands, can help make a difference. My favorite quote is, ‘Don’t give ’til it hurts. Give ’til it feels good!”

Thanks to DQ and their generous fans, more than $915,000 has been raised for Johns Hopkins All Children’s since 1985.

DQ fans can visit the following locations to help support kids like Kelsie: Citrus, Hernando, Pasco, Pinellas, Hillsborough, Polk, Manatee, Hardee, Highlands, Sarasota and DeSoto. You can also find your nearest DQ® location at DQ.com
