Pediatric Surgical Critical Care Fellowship

The Division of Pediatric Surgery offers an ACGME-approved, one-year clinic fellowship in Pediatric Surgical Critical Care. This program provides the trainee with the opportunity to enhance his or her management of the critically ill surgical child by providing care to neonates affected with congenital surgical anomalies, patients afflicted by trauma or a surgical disease, and non-cardiac patients requiring extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). The fellow will serve as a leader within the surgical critical care service, and with appropriate faculty supervision and mentorship, will assume progressive responsibility for managing the care of these patients.

This fellowship provides the unique opportunity of working in the congenital diaphragmatic hernia unit. The volume and excellent care provided in this unit provides an educational opportunity essential to critical care concepts from this high-risk population that translates to other critically ill populations. Elective rotations in anesthesia, pediatric critical care medicine, and the cardiovascular intensive care unit are available to augment the care of the critically ill surgical child. The trainee will also rotate at our secondary training site, Tampa General Hospital, which will allow a comprehensive exposure to the care of the surgical critically ill adult.

Length:  1 year

Start date:  August 1

Requirements:

  • Applicants must have completed their general surgery residency training and be board certified, or board eligible, in general surgery.
  • Candidates interested in the fellowship prior to completing their general surgery residency should have completed a minimum of three years of their surgical training program.
