Get Involved

Get Involved, Community Action Network at Johns Hopkins All Children's

The Community Action Network brings people from across the community together to support healthy families.

Healthy Start provides a forum for the community’s voice in efforts to improve the health of mothers and babies.

The Community Action Network (CAN) mobilizes health care, social service and other providers, along with members of the community, to coordinate services and steer local action to address social determinants of health—such as income, education and access to high-quality care—that can contribute to poor birth outcomes.

Anyone can get involved. CAN meetings also include short training sessions on relevant topics to help CAN members stay up-to-date on important information related to maternal and child health.

CAN members work to:

  • Build awareness of the need for a provider-involved, family-focused and community-driven approach to addressing birth outcomes
  • Strengthen the community’s ability to mobilize around maternal and child health and issues affecting fathers
  • Promote collaboration among state, local and community groups, and leverage community resources
  • Create strategic plans that lead to effective community action and positive change in maternal and child health in our community

CAN members believe in several core values that unite us in our efforts—collaboration, commitment, collective impact, education, advocacy, integrity and respect.

Please join us at our next meeting. All are welcome. CAN typically meets every second Monday of the month in the Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital Education and Conference Center.
