First Steps: Fit4Allkids

A community-based program for families focused on healthy lifestyles.

First Steps: Fit4Allkids is a free, fun and interactive program designed for families with elementary school-age children at an unhealthy weight or with rapid weight gain. We offer our six-week community program in cooperation with the City of St. Petersburg Parks and Recreation at Campbell Park Recreation Center.

We help families learn to make healthy lifestyle choices through hands-on education and fun fitness activities. Each session consists of separate child/parent nutrition and lifestyle information sessions, physical activity for all participants (either separate or as a group) and one family activity that relates to subject focus for the week.

Weekly topics include:

  • Making healthy snack, meal and beverages choices
  • Portion sizes
  • Food label reading
  • Family meals
  • Age-appropriate exercise and fitness activities

About the Class

Fit4Allkids is available to children age 7 to 12 who have been identified by their physician as being at an unhealthy weight. A physician referral is required to participate. At least one parent/caregiver is required to attend; however, the entire family is encouraged to attend.

Class meets weekly and children should be able to independently function in a class setting. Families should have reliable transportation and no other attendance barriers. Closed-toe shoes and active clothing is required. Participants should arrive ready to get moving!
