Jake looks like a typical 6 year old, pedaling happily up and down the street on his shiny new bicycle - supported by a trusty pair of training wheels. But what has propped Jake up more than anything is the loving support of parents Trish and Wade, his determination and bravery, and the first-class care provided throughout his life by Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital.
Jake was born with hemophilia - a genetic condition in which blood cannot clot, and serious, life-threatening injuries can result from routine cuts or falls. "I'm not sure when we'll get the courage to take those wheels off," Trish says. "It's going to be another rite of passage."
