Diabetes Providers

Jahanara Begum-Hasan, M.D. Endocrinology

Dr. Begum-Hasan specializes in pediatric endocrinology in the Department of Medicine. She joined Johns Hopkins All Children’s in December 2016 after seven years as a clinical associate professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the Carilion Clinic and Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine in Roanoke, Virginia. Previously, Dr. Begum-Hasan was a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. Dr. Begum-Hasan earned her medical degree from the Dhaka Medical College in Bangladesh.

Mary Gan, M.D. Endocrinology

Dr. Gan specializes in pediatric endocrinology for Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. She generally works at the Outpatient Care Brandon and Tampa locations and through the hospital’s relationships with Florida Hospital Tampa and Brandon Regional Hospital. Previously, she worked at the Cape Fear Valley Diabetes and Endocrine Center in Fayetteville, N. C. Dr. Gan received her medical degree from the University of Santo Tomas College of Medicine and Surgery in Manila, Philippines. She trained in pediatrics at Makati Medical Center in Makati City, Philippines, and at Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital in Pensacola, Fla., through the Florida State University College of Medicine.

Suzanne Jackman, M.D. Endocrinology

Dr. Jackman specializes in pediatric endocrinology. She received her medical degree from the University of South Florida College of Medicine, where she received the Lewis A. Barness Award from the Department of Pediatrics and the Watson Clinic Foundation Award for Medical Research. She remained at USF for her pediatric residency, earning the Intern of the Year Award, followed by a fellowship in pediatric endocrinology.

Allen Root, M.D. Endocrinology

Dr. Root is a pediatric endocrinologist. A graduate of Harvard Medical School, Dr. Root completed his internship at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, NY and his pediatric residency at University of Pennsylvania, followed by a fellowship in pediatric endocrinology at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, University of Pennsylvania. After serving on the medical faculty of the University of Pennsylvania and Temple University, Dr. Root joined the University of South Florida College of Medicine in 1973, serving as professor of pediatrics, associate and vice-chair of the Department of Pediatrics, and director of the pediatric residency program.

Kevin Lewis


Kevin is a pediatric nurse practitioner specializing in endocrinology at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. Previously, he was at the Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, West Virginia, where he most recently was director of clinical diabetes. He also has experience at the Akron Children's Hospital in Ohio, the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington and Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville, Maryland. He received his Master of Nursing/Child Health and his Doctor of Nursing Practice from West Virginia University. Dr. Lewis is a certified diabetes educator.

 Ana Warren


Ana is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in Johns Hopkins All Children Hospital’s Diabetes and Endocrinology department. She is certified as a diabetes educator and in advanced diabetes management. In addition, she is certified in nursing professional development. She is also certified as an insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor trainer. Ana is a member of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and American Association of American Diabetes Educators. Ana received her nursing degree from Jackson Memorial School of Nursing 1984, BS in Psychology from University of Florida 1985, Masters of Science in Nursing from University of South Florida. Ana was born in Cuba and grew up in Miami, Florida. She is Bilingual in Spanish.

Nancy Elliot

Nancy Elliot RN, CDE

During Nancy's 20-year nursing career she has worked extensively with diabetic patients, developing effective patient care procedures and training families in their care. As a certified diabetes educator and clinic nurse for the University of South Florida College of Medicine pediatric endocrinology program, she educated newly diagnosed pediatric diabetes patients and their families on self care, equipment use and health issues. Nancy also has expertise in inpatient care and education for pediatric diabetes patients at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital. Nancy is a certified insulin pump trainer.

Pamela Jones

Pamela Jones RN, BSN

Pam has more than 15 years of nursing experience in the Tampa Bay area, including outpatient care, inpatient care, and home health care. She has been a school nurse for children at Nina Harris Exceptional Student Center in Pinellas County. Pam has also served as Diabetes/Endocrinology Coordinator for Children's Medical Services, specializing in care management. She especially enjoys teaching patients and families at every step of the care process.
