Meet Our Neurologists

Jennifer Avallone, D.O. Neurology

Dr. Avallone is a pediatric neurologist with a specialty in epilepsy. She joined the hospital in 2017 after four years at the Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey. Dr. Avallone earned her medical degree at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine of the New York Institute of Technology. She completed a pediatric residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and a child neurology residency at Boston Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School. She also completed a clinical neurophysiology/pediatric epilepsy fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School.

Thomas Geller, M.D. Neurology

Dr. Geller specializes in pediatric neurology for the Johns Hopkins All Children’s Institute for Brain Protection Sciences. He sees patients at the main campus in St. Petersburg and at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Outpatient Care, North Port. He joined the hospital staff in 2018. Dr. Geller previously was a pediatric neurologist and child neurology residency program director at Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri. He retired as a captain from the U.S. Navy Medical Corps. His clinical and research interests include neurofibromatosis, neuro-oncology and pain management.

Peter Huszar, M.D. Neurology

Dr. Huszar specializes in pediatric neurology in the Johns Hopkins All Children’s Institute for Brain Protection Sciences. His clinical and research interests include neonatal and childhood cerebrovascular disorders and childhood primary headaches. He joined the hospital staff in 2014 after previously working for the Children's Hospital and Clinics of Minnesota. Dr. Huszar received his medical degree from Albert Szent-Gyorgyi Medical University (SZOTE) in Szeged, Hungary. Dr. Huszar trained in pediatrics at Erzsebet Hospital in Hodmezovasarhely, Hungary and SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. He then completed a pediatric neurology residency/fellowship at SUNY Downstate Medical Center.

Eric Vernier, M.D. Neurology

Dr. Vernier is a graduate of the Universidad Evangelica de El Salvador. Following a transitional residency at the Medical College of Georgia, he completed a residency in pediatrics at Lincoln Medical & Mental Health Center. Dr. Vernier completed a fellowship in child neurology at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and an additional fellowship at the University of South Florida. Dr. Vernier is board certified in neurology with special qualifications in child neurology.

Steven Winesett, M.D. Neurology

Dr. Winesett's practice is limited to the evaluation of intractable epilepsy for advanced procedures such as epilepsy surgery, vagal nerve stimulators, ketogenic diet, complex medication management and clinical trials. After a residency in pediatric/internal medicine at the University of South Florida, he completed his pediatric neurology fellowship at Vanderbilt University. In addition, he completed a pediatric epilepsy fellowship at the Cleveland Clinical and USF. Dr. Winesett is an Assistant Professor of Neurology at USF. Dr. Winesett has written multiple academic chapters on pediatric and adult epilepsy.
