The centers for disease control (CDC) reports, that more than one third of children and adolescents, in 2010, were overweight or obese. This has more than tripled in the past 30 years. Obese youth have more likelihood to develop pre-diabetes, heart disease, bone and joint problems, sleep apnea, and social and psychological problems. In addition, children and adolescents who are obese are more likely to be obese as adults.
Johns Hopkins All Children's nutritional services offer specialized and specific counseling as well as education for children that are overweight or obese. We will analyze their menu and adjust it according to your child's likes and dislikes. Education will be provided for the family and the child about healthful eating and a balanced diet. We will continue to monitor and make small changes as needed, in order to help your child reach a healthy weight.
Johns Hopkins All Children's also offers the Fit4allkids program that combines nutrition education combined with physical activity in a group setting. For more details check http://www.fit4allkids.org
