Pediatric Voice Services

About our Voice Program

Everyone loves to hear the sweet, happy voice of a child. Although estimates vary regarding the prevalence of voice disorders in children, a small percentage will experience a persistent voice problem that indicates the need for intervention. Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital has developed a program to evaluate and treat pediatric voice disorders using their kid-friendly methods and expertise.

What Makes our Voice Program Unique?

Our voice program is lead by speech-language pathologists who are specifically trained to recognize, evaluate and treat pediatric voice disorders. They utilize state of the art equipment in our voice laboratory to measure specific aspects of your child’s voice and develop an appropriate treatment plan. They work closely with families, as well as physicians and other professionals to provide children experiencing voice problems with optimal care.

When is a Voice Evaluation Indicated?

Common reasons children may be referred:

  • Persistent Hoarseness
  • Vocal Nodules
  • Breathy Vocal Quality
  • Vocal Cord Paralysis
  • Vocal Cord Dysfunction
  • Tracheotomy
  • Difficulty with volume
