Few things offer more relief than knowing you have found the right physician for your child. Whether that child is facing a tough illness or requiring surgery, knowing that you have someone on your side, fighting for the well-being of your child can be an enormous comfort.
Physicians play many roles at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, and we celebrate them on Doctors’ Day, March 30, 2017 for all they do—for our patients, their families and the rest of our medical staff.
“I don’t think there are enough words to express our gratitude to Dr. [Ernesto] Ruas, not only for the excellent surgery performed on our daughter, Sally, but for his compassion, understanding and bedside manner,” explains Sally’s mom, Lisa. Her family honors Johns Hopkins All Children’s surgeon Ernesto Ruas, M.D., every year on Doctors’ Day with a donation to the hospital and a personal letter after he performed craniofacial surgery on Sally to repair a partial cleft lip.
Lisa and her husband, Bryan, were worried about their infant going under anesthesia.
“From the second we walked into the hospital, everyone made us feel so much better,” Lisa recalls. “The check-in team, the nurses, volunteers, everyone really put us at ease. Dr. Ruas was wonderful. He is such a smart doctor and so compassionate. He is very confident in his ability but also understands how scary surgery is to a parent with a young baby. He truly is one of the smartest and kindest doctors I have ever met. He really made this experience so positive for us.
“We would like other moms and dads to know that there are doctors like Dr. Ruas and hospitals like Johns Hopkins All Children’s out there,” she adds. “Sally is two-and-a-half and a beautiful, sweet little girl who won’t remember having to go through this surgery. We don’t even think about her lip anymore thanks to Dr. Ruas.”
On Doctors’ Day, Ruas is just one example of the world-class care offered by the expert physicians and specialists at Johns Hopkins All Children’s.
“There is nothing more rewarding than hearing the incredible stories shared by our patients and families on Doctors’ Day,” says Jenine Rabin, executive vice president of Johns Hopkins All Children’s Foundation. “Our physicians and entire medical team work hard every day to ensure that each family is treated with care and dignity, is kept informed throughout their stay and has the best possible chance to enjoy a successful outcome. The Foundation appreciates all of the wonderful stories our families share on Doctors’ Day, and we make it our mission to use their much-needed donations in ways that best meet our patients’ needs.”
“We feel blessed to have Dr. Ruas as Sally’s doctor,” Lisa says, “and for the excellent care we received at Johns Hopkins All Children’s.”
