Risk Stratified Operations (STAT) Outcomes

Complexity Stratification is a tool for grouping many different operations into groups according to complexity and difficulty. The groupings are called STAT Categories. The STAT Categories were developed in 2010 using data from all of the hospitals participating in the congenital heart surgery databases of The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) and The European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS). These 5 STAT Categories represent the estimated risk of mortality based on data from more than 77,000 operations.

The chart and table below documents the mortality for all 5 STAT categories for Johns Hopkins All Children's Heart Institute compared with the average mortality for all hospitals in the STS Congenital Heart Surgery Database for the last four years.

Data source is Figure 7 of the Spring 2017 STS Congenital Heart Surgery Database Report. If you have questions about any of the outcomes data you see above, please call 727-767-4932.
