Benchmark Operations Outcomes

Understandably, many parents want additional information beyond overall mortality rates. They ask: "What is the success rate for the specific cardiac surgical operation to treat my child's heart problem?"

Thanks to our participation in the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) Congenital Heart Surgery Database, you can compare mortality rates at Johns Hopkins All Children's for 10 benchmark operations and heart transplantation with the combined mortality rates for all of the hospitals that participate in the STS Congenital Heart Surgery Database.

The table below shows our team's volume (number) for each benchmark operation for the last four years. It also shows the mortality for each operation for Johns Hopkins All Children's Heart Institute compared with the average mortality for all hospitals in the STS Congenital Heart Surgery Database for the last four years. The information can help guide your decision-making.
