Parents as Partners
Parents are our partners in their child’s care, and we offer classes on a variety of topics relating to your baby’s development, well-being and safety. Currently we are revising our class schedule. Please ask your baby’s bedside nurse about learning opportunities.
Parent Classes in the NICU
Parents of NICU patients are required to complete an in-house infant CPR class prior to discharge. The class teaches parents and families how to recognize a medical emergency and to respond quickly and competently until help arrives.
This class teaches parents about the unique needs of the premature infant. Parents are taught how to provide developmentally appropriate touch and care to their babies, and learn what to expect while in the NICU and after discharge.
Fast Track to Discharge
In this class, parents are taught about basic infant care and safety. Through lecture and hands-on practice, parents gain experience with and knowledge about things like changing diapers, giving baths and when to call the doctor so that they feel confident when they take their child home.
