The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports, that more than one third of children and adolescents, in 2010, were overweight or obese. This has more than tripled in the past 30 years. Obese youth have more likelihood to develop pre-diabetes, heart disease, bone and joint problems, sleep apnea, and social and psychological problems. In addition, children and adolescents who are obese are more likely to be obese as adults.

Johns Hopkins All Children's nutritional services offer specialized and specific counseling as well as education for children that are overweight or obese. We will analyze their menu and adjust it according to your child's likes and dislikes. Education will be provided for the family and the child about healthful eating and a balanced diet. We will continue to monitor and make small changes as needed, in order to help your child reach a healthy weight.

Our team also collaborates with the Healthy Weight Initiative at Johns Hopkins All Children’s, a multi-tiered and evidence-based preventative approach to provide the highest quality treatment of pediatric obesity and associated health conditions.

Johns Hopkins All Children's offers the Fit4Allkids program that combines nutrition education combined with physical activity in a group setting.
